Please read the following usage tips carefully, and you'll have a successful data import:
-
In theory any standard CSV file may be imported. Standard means the first non-empty line of the file
must be the header line following by the fill-up, service, expense or trip records.
Note: If you have a binary Excel/Office file, you should first export it as CSV so that aCar can
understand its format and import it.
-
The CSV file must have .csv file extension to be seen and picked by aCar.
-
The CSV file must contain only one record type (e.g. fill-ups only or expenses only).
If you have more than one record type to import, you must group them in separate files and import them separately.
-
You must select a Date Format which matches the date values in your CSV file.
-
You can bypass the Time Format if there are no time values (e.g. 22:45) in your CSV file.
But if there are time values, you must select a Time Format otherwise you will get into problem for
importing them.
-
You must select a Column Separator character which matches the column separators in your CSV file.
Comma: When you have col1,col2,col3
Semicolon: When you have col1;col2;col3
-
You must select a Decimal Separator character which matches the decimal separator of the
numerical values in your CSV file.
Point: When you have 12.345
Comma: When you have 12,345
-
No specific column name or order is forced for CSV files since you will be provided a dynamic mapping
tool to map your CSV columns to aCar fields.
-
All of the input fields (NOT the calculated ones) you see in aCar can be mapped and imported using the
dynamic column-field mapping tool.
-
Date/Time, Odometer Reading and Fuel Volume are the minimum (required) columns
expected to be found in fill-up record CSV files.
-
Date/Time, Odometer Reading and Services are the minimum (required) columns
expected to be found in service record CSV files.
-
Date/Time, Odometer Reading and Expenses are the minimum (required) columns
expected to be found in expense record CSV files.
-
Trip Type, Start Date/Time and Start Odometer Reading are the minimum (required)
columns expected to be found in trip record CSV files.
-
The CSV file may contain any number of columns you like, but any unmapped column will be ignored
and not imported.
-
Only one Date/Time column should be mapped to Date/Time field of aCar. Separate Date and Time columns
could not be mapped. The date and time portions must be separated by just a space and nothing more.
-
Having Time is completely optional. Only a single Date column could be mapped to Date/Time field in aCar.
The time portion will be considered 00:00:00 in this case.
-
Odometer Reading column must contain absolute odometer reading numbers and NOT Driven Miles!
