NGC 362 is a globular cluster located in the southern constellation Tucana. It was discovered on August 1, 1826 by James Dunlop, and listed as no. 62 in his catalog.
Though relatively bright and easily visible with small telescopes, NGC 362 is often overlooked in favor of its brighter neighbor NGC 104. NGC 362 has an apparent diameter of 12.9 arc minutes and a visual magnitude of 6.4.
NGC 362 is 27,700 light years from the Sun, and 30,300 light years from the Galactic Center. In the late 1980s, NGC 362 was found to be about 3 billion years younger than the otherwise similar globular NGC 288. This result was found from differences in their color-magnitude diagrams.
