Groombridge 34 AB is a reddish pair of magnitude 8.2 and 10.6 stars separated by 40", appearing 1/4 degree north of 26 Andromedae. Groombridge 34 is a red dwarf binary that is one of the closer star systems to our own, lying only 11.7 light years away. The pair has a large proper motion of 2.89". The two red dwarf stars have a nearly circular orbit with a separation of about 147 AU. Both stars exhibit variability due to random flares, and have been given the variable star designations GX And (Groombridge 34 A) and GQ And (Groombridge 34 B).
