NGC 4559

This spiral galaxy is located in the constellation of Coma Berenices, just 2° E of g Com. Look for NGC4565 South of it.

NGC 4559 is classified as SBc. Like many nearby spiral galaxies, NGC 4559 displays bright star-forming regions and dust lanes in its expansive arms. Its core contains an intermediate-mass black hole.

A type II supernova occurred in this galaxy some time ago (SN 1941a). From this, astronomers estimate the galaxy to be between 30 - 35 million light years away.
