NGC 6124

NGC 6124 is an open star cluster in the constellation Scorpius.

NGC 6124 was discovered by Abbe Lacaille during his 1751-1752 journey to South Africa. In the 1888 New General Catalog, Dreyer describes it as bright, large, pretty rich, and compressed in the middle. With total visual magnitude of 5.8, and impressive size of 29 arc minutes, this description is still accurate today. Its component stars range from magnitude 9 to 11 or so.

NGC 6124 lies at a distance of about 18,600 light years from Earth.
