Setting up the computer
You must set up the computer you want to control so that VNC Viewer is able to connect. You only need do this once.
- If you want to connect to a Mac computer running OS X 10.4 or later, you do not need to install any software (though see PowerPC caveat below). Simply open the Sharing system preference and turn on Apple Remote Desktop (10.4) or Screen Sharing (10.5 or later).
- If you want to connect to a Windows, Linux or UNIX computer, to a PowerPC Mac computer running OS X 10.4 (Tiger), or to an AMX touch panel, install VNC-compatible Server technology.
- If you want to connect securely to a Mac, Windows, Linux or UNIX computer, and use advanced VNC Viewer features such as entering international characters and transfering text, install the latest version of VNC Enterprise Edition or VNC Personal Edition. Only these connections are encrypted using up to 256-bit AES, and authenticated using 2048-bit RSA keys.
For more information on these operations, please read the online guide.
