Trim Tools
Basic
Trimming lets you lengthen or shorten your media or Transitions on the timeline.
To trim a piece of media:
Tap a clip or a Transition on the Storyboard or Timeline, or tap an audio clip on the Audio Track.
If you have chosen an item on the Storyboard, its counterpart will be “spotlighted” in the timeline as shown in the illustration above.
Touch and hold, and then drag the Trim Handles at each end of the media to shorten or lengthen. When there is no media remaining, the trim handle will not allow you to make the clip longer.
To make finer adjustments, either zoom-in on the timeline by using the “pinch-open” gesture, or use the Precision Trimmer described below to trim by 1 and 10 frame increments.
Precision Trimming
You can make frame by frame trimming adjustments on the Timeline with the precision trimmer, while simultaneously seeing both the outgoing and incoming sides of the cut. For example, you can see the last frame of the clip just before the playhead, and the first frame of the clip just after the playhead. Compare each side of the cut in order to make a “match frame”, or to see how the two clips will play next to each other.
To use the Precision Trimmer:
Tap on the Trim icon on the toolbar. The nearest cut to the playhead is loaded into the Precision Trimmer. The outgoing clip is in the left hand preview and the incoming clip in the right hand preview.
Choose the trim method from the three options:
Trim Out
- Trim Out, found above the left hand Preview, selects the end of the outgoing clip for trimming.
Trim Both (Roll Trim)
- Trim Both in the middle above both Previews engages both the end of the outgoing clip, and the beginning of the incoming clip for trimming. That means that for every frame you add to the end of the outgoing clip, you will take one frame away from the beginning of the incoming clip.

Trim In
- Trim In, above the right hand Preview, engages the front of the incoming clip to be trimmed.
Once you've selected the desired method, use the trim buttons located below the preview(s) to trim 1 or 10 frames forward or backward.

Each preview displays the number of frames that have been added or removed from each clip.
Loop
- Loop play around your trim point to repeatedly review it during playback.
Choose to trim a different cut, or point at which two clips meet on your timeline, by using the “Previous Cut” and “Next Cut” buttons.
Tap the “Exit” button to close the Precision Trimmer.
Pre-trim
You can shorten the length of your source clip before adding it to the Project Editor.
To Pre-trim a source clip:
Select the desired clip to load it into the preview.
Adjust its Mark In and Mark Out handles by touching and holding them, and dragging each handle to the position where you want to start or end your clip. Alternatively, you can step through your clip using the frame forward and backward buttons, and then tap on the Mark In and Mark Out buttons.

After positioning the Mark In and Mark Outpoints, drag the clip to the Storyboard or Timeline.
