Connecting From Windows Vista / 7

Windows Vista and 7 users have two options for connecting to Files Pro. You can either map a network drive to the Files Pro server, or create a network location. The advantage of using the second method is that Windows won't prompt you with security warnings when copying to/from Files Pro. Both methods are described below.

Windows Vista Notes

1: It is recommended that all Windows Vista users install the following WebDAV update from Microsoft:
Software Update for Web Folders (KB907306)

2: Vista has a particularly poor WebDAV client. If you have trouble connecting or transferring documents then we recommend you try an alternative WebDAV client.
In particular NetDrive (www.netdrive.net, free) works well and allows mapping a network drive to Files Pro in Windows 7, Vista and XP.

Option1: Map a Network Drive

  1. Open Computer from the Start Menu.
  2. Click on the Map Network Drive toolbar button.
  3. Enter the Files Pro URL into the Folder field.
  1. Click Finish.
  2. If you set up Files Pro to use remote authentication then you will be prompted for your username and password at this point.

Note: If you have problems authenticating try entering your username/password by clicking on the "different user name" link, before clicking Finish.

This will map Files Pro to a network drive with a name such as

DAVWWWRoot (\\192.168.0.4) Y:

To reconnect in future just open this network drive from Computer.

Note: If you change your username or password, or your device's IP address changes, you may need to recreate the Network drive to reconnect to Files Pro.

Option2: Create a Network Location

  1. Open Computer from the Start Menu.
  2. Click on the Map Network Drive toolbar item.
  3. In the Map Network Drive window, click Connect to a Web site that you can use to store your documents and pictures, click Next.
  4. Select Choose a custom network location, click Next.
  5. In the Internet or network address field, enter the Files Pro URL e.g. http://192.168.0.5
  6. If you set up Files Pro to use remote authentication then you will be prompted for your username and password at this point.
  7. Enter a name for the connection, click Next.
  8. Ensure that Open this network location when I click Finish is checked and click Finish.

In future, assuming the Files Pro URL has not changed, you can connect to Files Pro simply by opening Computer and double-clicking the network location you just created. You may need to select "Refresh" from the window's context-menu to ensure that Windows has an up-to-date view of your files and folders.

Note: If you change your username or password, or your device's IP address changes, you may need to recreate the Network location to reconnect to Files Pro.
